KNOXVILLE—The 2014 Vol class shrank by a member today when 3-star receiver Lawrence Lee moved on from his earlier commitment. Tennessee picked up a pledge from talented and versatile athlete Brandon Powell this weekend. His size and skill set closely mirrors what Lee brings to the table; it appears the Tennessee staff came to an agreement with Lee that it would be best for both parties to move in different directions.

Powell turned heads at a Tennessee camp this weekend and committed before leaving campus. He brings more speed to the table than Lee, and is generally more highly regarded. The Vols have just 14 spots left in the 2014 class, and at least 10 of the remaining spots need to go to linemen and linebackers. With 4-star receivers Dominique Booth, Eric Lauderdale, and Josh Malone heavily considering Tennessee, Lee’s departure certainly makes sense from a scholarship limit perspective.

Lee, a 5-10, 170 pound receiver from Pensacola, Florida, has offers from Missouri, South Florida, Memphis, Ole Dominion, and South Alabama. We wish him nothing but the best as he moves on with his recruitment.
