Reed CarringerKeymasterI like Tennessee’s chances with Bell. Lawson is tougher to predict, but the Vols have done everything possible to land him. The percentages you stated are probably pretty fair. Ford unfortunately looks like he’s headed to Auburn, but the Vols aren’t out of it yet. The Tennessee staff is trying hard to get Moore on campus this weekend. Vol DB coach Willie Martinez met with Moore Tuesday, and he is considering trips to Arkansas, Kentucky, or Tennessee this weekend. When his plans solidify, I’ll let you know.

I’ve maintained since Jones’ hire that this class would end up inside the top 20 nationally, and I still believe that to be the case.

Andrew Gantz, a 3-star kicker from Ohio. We added him to our commitment page and you can read more about him there. http://footballtime.com/recruiting-2013-vol-football-commits/

Reed CarringerKeymasterThere have been rumors of 5-star safety Vonn Bell taking an unofficial visit to Knoxville, but that has not been confirmed. That said, it wouldn’t be all that surprising to see Bell make a short drive to Knoxville this weekend as he wrestles with his final decision. As far as I know, Levenberry, Boyd, and Brown will be the only visitors the next few days, but a couple of “surprise” visits aren’t out of the question. If anything firm breaks, I’ll post it here.
In the meantime, you can read about weekend visitors here, targets here, and Vol commits here.
Shoot your recruiting questions at me and I’ll answer them.

Reed CarringerKeymasterMore on Bell. The Vol staff met with his high school coach Thursday as they were out of visits with Bell. He was very impressed with the vision Jones has for UT football, and regardless of Bell’s decision, that looks to be a good relationship moving forward. Bell is supposedly going to meet with his family and HS coach Saturday to discuss his college plans. I still think Tennessee leads for him, even if the Vols don’t get an unofficial visit from the talented safety this weekend.

ParticipantIs it likely that if Boyd commits to the Vols, that Shelton Gibson will also commit to UT

I don’t know that it’s likely, but it’s definitely possible. Of Tennessee’s visitors, Boyd is the least likely to flip and I think they’ll both end up elsewhere. Luckily for the Vols, they’re stacked at receiver.

ParticipantAlso I heard Tennessee was looking at Jabo Lee who’s committed to East Carolina. Any word on that

Reed CarringerKeymasterThe Vols offered 3-star running back Jabo Lee yesterday. The 5-9, 180 back from South Carolina is committed to ECU currently, and has an offer from Virginia Tech. He developed a relationship with Jay Graham when Graham coached running backs for South Carolina. Lee has good hands, 4.45 40 speed, and is a powerful and balanced runner who is hard to bring down. He can develop into a very good collegiate back. He’d be a nice pickup for the Vols, especially this late in the game. Here are some highlights from his junior year.

ParticipantI think we will creep back into the top 25 by the time it is all said and done. Of course Bell and Lawson are the most desirable players to have in orange but I would love to see a fantastic RB sign. I know you are more optimistic, Reed, than I am at that position, but I think that is where UT will struggle. If you have any pull in Knoxville, tell Coach Jones to drop the orange stripes on the pants and go back to the “T” on the hip. Those orange shoes are atrocious, also. Classic black is the way to go. : ). Don’t laugh, it could help with recruiting these kids now a days.

Coach_KParticipantOf all our current commits, who do you think will have the most substantial immediate impact?
GBO!!!

Reed CarringerKeymasterGlad to have you here UTvols33. I expect Bell to sign with the Vols, and I’m convinced UT’s chances with Lawson are improving. The same with Johnathan Ford. I like Lane, Neal, and Young, and Tennessee’s ground game was much improved last year, especially when you consider Chaney’s tendency to abandon the run. The Vols were averaging over 4 yards per carry against Florida (and leading) before Chaney stopped running the ball and arguably cost the Vols the game. I think Tennessee’s ground game will take another step forward next year. This staff is much more committed to a balanced offensive attack.
Concerning uniforms, I expect something to change for the 2014 season…we’ll see.

Welcome to the forum, glad to have you! I love Marquez North’s skill set. Of the current commits I’d go with him. Now, if the Vols land Lawson, Bell, or Ford, I’d probably go with one of them. I really like Paul Harris too and he’s already enrolled which gives him a leg up. With the staff change, it’s tough to predict how quickly they’ll pull freshmen into the mix, but at receiver, they really have no choice but to rely on several newcomers.

5-star DE Carl Lawson says commitment firm. RT @CarlCarltp This will successfully end my recruitment I’m an #Auburn #Tiger.February 3, 2013 at 4:10 pm #2138UTvols33
ParticipantThat’s a good point. That really was the turning point in not just that game, but in the season. I Should give those guys more credit because they did guide us over 1k yards combined, but I saw them get tackled by the grass so many times. We’ll see if the coaching was to blame this fall! Great website, try and keep the Negative Nellys away.

RT @CarlCarltp This will successfully end my recruitment I’m an #Auburn #Tiger.Last night I thought the Vols were still in the hunt, looks like that’s no longer the case. He visited Auburn over a dozen times and was always going to be tough to pry away from there if the new staff could make him feel comfortable with their schemes and personalities.

I think there’s a chance of that, but it’ll be down the line. These coaches aren’t the type to come in and stir that pot right away.
