Jones promotes program with #Brickbybrick Twitter campaign.

KNOXVILLE—On April 5th, Jones sent out a tweet encouraging Vol fans everywhere to paint a brick and submit a picture of their brick via Twitter with the hashtag #brickbybrick (hashtags allow you to search the term). Since then, the campaign has taken Twitter by storm.

The movement relies on the premise that while one brick is weak, if you put several together you have the beginnings of a wall or foundation. Jones is attempting to rebuild a once proud program and that can’t be done overnight; it has to happen moment by moment or brick by brick. With his tweet, Jones challenged Vols everywhere to demonstrate their commitment to the process of returning Tennessee to its rightful place among the college football elite.

Wolf revealed his commitment brick Wednesday.

Wolf revealed his commitment brick last week.

Last week, 4-star tight end Ethan Wolf gave Jones a brick with the word “committed” painted on it as his way of announcing his plans to sign with Tennessee. Several other recruits (Jalen Hurd, Vic Wharton, etc) use the phrase regularly in their tweets. Peyton Manning even endorsed the movement and was photographed with a brick while on campus last weekend. “People need to stay committed to it, and stay patient with it because it’s not going to happen overnight,” Manning said of Jones’ plan. “This is a job he wanted and he wants to stay and wants to retire here.”

Manning wasn’t the only Vol to offer his endorsement. Legendary Vol player and coach Johnny Majors was photographed with a brick. Former Vols Erik Ainge and Jayson Swain joined the movement, while current Vols A.J. Johnson, Tiny Richardson, and Curt Maggitt have been photographed with their bricks. The list goes on and on.

April 12th, the @TennesseeBrick Twitter account was founded with the purpose of spreading the #brickbybrick movement. As of this writing, it has over 2,400 followers and serves as yet another tool in advancing Jones’ fundamental message. The folks over @TennesseeBrick were kind enough to paint “Football Time” bricks for us.

Obviously, without Tennessee we wouldn’t be in business. The Vols have been great to us over the years and we’re proud to cover a program that has done so many great things both on the field and in the community. We wish Jones and the Vols all the best as they strive, brick by brick, to lead Tennessee back to the forefront of the college football landscape.

Here are a few of our favorite #brickbybrick images from the movement.
