2013 Basketball Time In Tennessee Cover Shoot

It’s hard to describe how much work and planning goes into producing Football Time In Tennessee and Basketball Time In Tennessee. It’s a major production and is pretty much a year round project, so I thought I would share some behind the scenes info and images from this year’s Basketball Time In Tennessee cover shoot.

It was towards the end of August and we arrived at Pratt Pavillion well over an hour before the scheduled shoot time to get gear hauled in and setup. Don, Steve, Reed, and myself had an idea of what we wanted for the cover image, but after a few test shots in the center of the floor we decided to move to the end of the court and shoot on the checkerboards. We just barely got things setup for that location when the players arrived.

The theme was “The Big 3 at Tennessee”, which meant that we were photographing Jordan McRae, Jeronne Maymon, and Jarnell Stokes. Terrific bunch of guys who are always incredibly fun to be around and very easy to work with.

Vol’s Basketball SID Tom Satkowiak was a huge help as always and he is easily one of the best SID’s in the NCAA. UT is lucky to have him! Don handled most of the posing (I was on the upper level) and the actual shoot went by quite fast. And the guys seemed like they had a blast!

After that, it was a matter of selecting our favorite image and editing it (you really have no idea how large Jarnell’s feet are until you start editing scuff marks out of them). 🙂

Basketball Time In Tennessee is here and will be hitting newsstands Thursday, so be sure to pick up a copy! You can also order online here. In the meantime, enjoy these images from the cover shoot and Go Vols!
